THE CAMP

Haskins Bay Fly-In is operated as a light housekeeping (self-serve) camp. Only one group is booked at a time and there are NO fulltime staff or guides on site.  Your group will have the camp to themselves!

Guests have use of all camp facilities as well as boats/motors, canoes, fishing kayaks, and recreational kayaks. Gasoline and propane are supplied by the camp. Your group return flight from Flin Flon, Manitoba to Haskins Bay is also included in the package and will be booked for you.

Otherwise, guests are responsible for providing their own supplies (groceries, beverages, fishing gear/licenses, bedding, etc.) as well as cooking, cleaning, and general operations (such as fueling/driving the boats, operating the generators, etc.) while in camp. All fishing and activities are self-guided.

Min/Max Group Size

Due to flight costs, we require a minimum of 4 guests. Smaller groups may attend the camp however, they will be required to pay the rate for 4 people. Haskins Bay Fly-In is licensed for a maximum of 8 guests.

Facilities

There are two cabins at the camp for guest use. The bunkhouse provides 10 bunks, a shower and sink with hot running water, and a woodstove.

The cook cabin includes a sink with hot/cold running water, fridge/freezer, stove, utensils, pots and pans, dishware, a large dining table, a sitting area, and a woodstove. There are also a BBQ, 3-burner propane cooker, and propane fryer available for outdoor cooking.

A large deck off the cook cabin and a fire pit area provide ample space for outdoor gathering.

A new composting toilet facility was added to the camp in 2023 and is located near the cabins.

A solar system provides power for both the bunkhouse and the cook cabin. Gas powered generators are available to power the hot water heaters and for any additional power needs.

The water available on site is non-potable and must be boiled prior to use/consumption. Your group may decide to pack in drinking water or bring an alternative method of purification, such as a filter.

Cell Service

An on-site signal booster provides cell service in the cook cabin. However, there is limited/no coverage once you are away from the booster or out on the lake.

Please also note that there will be little to no coverage on your drive to the Creighton/Flin Flon area. Service is available once you are close to city limits.

Boats and Motors

Four 16’ fishing boats are provided for guest use. All boats have 9.8 HP Tohatsu motors as well as padded swivel seats.

All boating/fishing is self-guided and guests are responsible for operating the boats. Under Transport Canada regulations, operators of the boats will need proof of competency (such as a Pleasure Craft Operator Card). Please refer to the Transport Canada site to ensure you are in compliance with regulations.

In addition to the motorboats, guests have use of canoes and kayaks. Our fleet consists of:

2 – 15′ Nova Craft Prospector canoes

4 – Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayaks

4 – Perception Outlaw fishing kayaks

We also provide spare paddles, bailers, and anchors for the motor boats. For the paddle craft, we provide paddles, bail bags (with rope and whistle), and small anchors.

LOCATION & GENERAL INFORMATION

Haskins Bay Fly-In is located on Florence Lake, approximately 25km north of Flin Flon, Manitoba as the crow flies. Florence Lake straddles the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border. The camp is located on the Saskatchewan side of the lake. Guests will require both Manitoba and Saskatchewan fishing licenses to fish the entire lake.

The lake is approximately 6km long, making it relatively small for a northern lake. The size makes for easy navigability and is ideal for self-guided time on the water.

The tea-coloured waters of Florence Lake provide excellent walleye, yellow perch, and northern pike fishing. Numerous bays, islands, and creeks create miles of shoreline to explore and ideal fishing conditions.

Haskins Bay Fly-In sits among a Boreal Shield landscape characterized by coniferous forest, exposed Canadian Shield rock, and countless lakes. You’ll share the area with wildlife common to the region such as beavers, loons, spruce grouse, eagles, pelicans, caribou, moose, wolves, and black bear, among others.

Our season is dictated by the weather and runs from late May to late September when the ice is off the lake. Average high/low temperatures during our operating months are as follows:

June 21°C/10°C

July 24°C/13°C

August 22°C/12°C

September 15°C/6°C

We average about 16 hours of daylight and right around 10 rainy days per month throughout the summer.

Insurance

Due to the sometimes unpredictable nature of the industry (weather, fire, flight delays, etc.) we recommend guests have trip insurance to cover any unforeseen costs associated with last-minute changes or cancellations.

We also recommend guests carry insurance that will cover evacuation costs in the event of a medical or other emergency situation.

Kids

Kids 12 and under pay 50% of our package rates. Children under 2 are free.

Note that kids rates apply only after the minimum of 4 regular-priced guests is met. For example, 3 adults and 2 children would pay the regular rate for 4 guests, and receive the discounted rate for 1 child. 4 adults and 2 children would receive the discounted rate for both children.

WHAT TO BRING

Guests are required to provide their own food, beverages, fishing gear, bedding, and supplies. Please review our Suggested Packing List to help you prepare for your trip.

Available at camp for guest use are fish nets, tubs, and universal fit adult life jackets (fit chest sizes 30-56in/76-142cm).

Payloads

The airline will book aircraft based on the number of passengers in your group. The aircraft and payload allowance for your group will be communicated to you once your flights are confirmed by the airline.

In line with industry standards, we suggest you plan for a cargo limit of 55lbs per person.

If you feel the payload provided by the airline is inadequate for your group, we can book supplemental aircraft at an additional cost.

Please note that if your group goes over payload or bulks out on the day of your flight, the additional aircraft needed to carry the overage will be at your cost.

GETTING HERE
